Please contact our rooms by phone (08) 8318 0808 to make an appointment. A current referral letter from your GP or other specialist is required. These referrals are valid for 12 months and 3 months, respectively.

Please bring
We encourage you to bring a family member or a close friend for support during the consultation. They can help to remember the information provided or to ask any additional questions.
Dr Tan can provide consultations via video telehealth, particularly for patients living in rural and remote areas. We do recommend a face-to-face review especially for the initial consultation to allow appropriate neurological examination and to receive the best available advice for your health condition.
Dr Tan can assist by providing a radiology request for the imaging to be done at a location convenient to you.
Please contact Dr Tan's rooms for detailed information about our consultation fees. Patients will be required to pay in full on the day of consultation. Our rooms accept eftpos and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard).
If you have a valid referral from your GP or other specialists and a Medicare card, you will be eligible for partial rebate of your consultation. We can lodge this electronically for you at the time of payment. Please note that private health insurance does not contribute to consultation fees.
Dr Tan is happy to see uninsured patients. For patients not covered by private health insurance, you can be placed on the surgical waitlist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital if an operation is indicated.
In many cases, non-surgical management options such as medications, physical therapy, and various pain management strategies are first considered. Our team will explore all available options with you before recommending an operation.
Most surgeries incur an out-of-pocket cost. This may vary depending on the type of surgery and the complexity, your private health fund and level of cover. If you require an operation, you will be provided with a detailed quote and informed financial information.
There may also be additional out-of-pocket expenses during the hospital admission for anaesthetic, radiology and pathology services.
If Dr Tan recommends an operation, it can be performed at the following hospitals.
1) The Memorial Hospital at Sir Edwin Smith Avenue, North Adelaide SA 5006.
2) St Andrew's Hospital at 350 South Terrace, Adelaide SA 5000.
Our experienced team will guide you through the preparation process before your surgery. You will receive detailed instructions before your operation, including the admission time and location within the hospital.
As a general rule, you will be required to fast (not eating or drinking) for at least 6 hours before the surgery. Specific fasting instructions will be provided. You may also need to stop certain medications particularly blood thinners. Please discuss this with Dr Tan during the consultation visit.
Dr Tan works in a multidisciplinary environment. He will see you regularly during your hospital admission. A peri-operative physician may be involved in your hospital care if required. A team of allied health professionals are also available to assist in your recovery following surgery.
There will be a post-operative appointment 4-6 weeks after your surgery. You will be provided with these details when your surgery is booked. Please contact Dr Tan's office to arrange this if you don't have an appointment by your hospital discharge date.
